Burglar squatted in N.J. family’s home, stole their car on crime spree: police

Hee and Byung Song returned home from vacation Tuesday to find their Cresskill home not quite how they left it.

Their food was eaten, their bed had been slept in, someone had even played video games on their Playstation.

CBS New York reports a burglar had squatted in the Songs’ Bergen County house while they were away and not only did he make himself comfortable but he then reportedly stole the family car in an attempt to commit further crimes. Nothing valuable was stolen from the home.

CBS reports East Rutherford Police arrested Bronx native Dirk McCalla, 29, while he was driving the Songs’ SUV and ringing doorbells.

McCalla, who is reportedly homeless, is in jail awaiting a court appearance. The Songs say they will not return home until the place is cleaned; police reported McCalla’s “sanitary condition” to cause “difficulties standing in close proximity of him.”
