On Friday, Kendrick Lamar joined Maplewood’s SZA onstage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. On Monday, he became the first rapper and first non-classical or jazz artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for music, receiving the honor for his 2017 album “DAMN.” That same afternoon, he was also announced as the 2018 headliner for Summer Jam, the annual hip-hop festival from radio station Hot 97.
The festival, which takes place at MetLife Stadium every year in June (a Ticketmaster presale starts at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17), is celebrating its 25th anniversary on June 10 in East Rutherford.
Here’s a look at the rest of the lineup. Of course, “lineup” is always a misnomer when talking about Summer Jam, since a good portion of the show is made up of “surprise” guests. (We’d say to watch out for the year’s breakout star and Edgewater local, Cardi B, to make a return appearance, except for the fact that she would likely be very pregnant by that time, if not a new mother … though pregnancy did not stop her from bringing a rousing performance to Coachella on Sunday).

Also joining the 2018 lineup in East Rutherford is Summer Jam regular Remy Ma, who made her festival debut in 2006 and returned in 2015, 2016 and 2017, when she performed and introduced an all-star lineup of female rappers, including Queen Latifah, Lil’ Kim and Cardi B (in addition to her Nicki Minaj diss track).
Can “Plata O Plomo” collaborator Fat Joe and/or Papoose (Remy’s husband) be far behind?
