More than 25,000 homes and businesses are without power in several towns scattered across the state after a Jersey Central Power & Light substation issue, officials said.
Most of the outages are in Morris County with nearly 15,000 without lights. Power should be restored in about an hour, JCP&L spokesman Scott Surgeoner said by phone at about 6:40 a.m.
PSE&G also has about 6,500 customers in the dark as of 6:40 a.m.
The majority of the affected PSE&G customers are in Bergen, Essex and Passaic.
