A dozen starving dogs saved from abandoned Paterson home

Described by shelter workers as “the most matted and neglected dogs we have ever seen,” twelve animals were found caged in an empty Paterson house Tuesday, the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge said Tuesday.

The refuge was made aware of the situation by the city’s animal control officer and the Passaic County SPCA. The animals are all in need of medical care and extensive grooming. Some of the dogs have fur so thick they have difficulty walking or seeing, the refuge said.
