Good Samaritan catches baby, mom jumping from burning house

A Lakewood mother and her infant son survived a house fire Friday evening with the help of a good Samaritan, who caught them as they jumped from the second floor of the building, the police department said in a statement.

Rey Carpinteyro, 33, was parking his car on Woodlake Manor drive around 6:30 p.m. Friday when he heard a woman screaming from a nearby townhouse to “catch her baby,” the statement said.

“Without hesitation Carpinteyro ran over to the burning home and caught the infant as the mother tossed him from a second story window,” the statement said.
