2 rescued from New Year's Eve fire in Summit

An early morning fire Dec. 31 ripped through an apartment building in Summit, briefly entrapping at least four occupants, Chief Eric Evers said in a statement.

Firefighters responded within minutes to the 5 a.m. fire at 125 Summit Ave., where 30-foot flames had already engulfed the three-story building. Firefighters treated two people who jumped to safety from upper floors and rescued another two people.

A total of 12 families were displaced.

Evers said several businesses aided those affected by the fire and provided other assistance, including The Committed Pig restaurant, The Grand Summit Hotel, Vita Organic Foods, Greek Grill, Summit Diner and Dunkin’ …read more
