Man killed by train in North Jersey, service suspended

A Hoboken-bound New Jersey Transit train struck and killed a man west of the Paterson station at about 2 p.m. Saturday, an agency spokeswoman said.

No customers were on board when the Main Line train hit the man, who was on the tracks, spokeswoman Nancy Snyder said.

Train service was suspended between Ridgewood and Kingsland station for the investigation, as of 3:40 p.m.

NJ Transit was investigating the incident, and there was no immediate indication why the man was on the tracks.
