Fire rips through Jersey City building

Flames shoot through the Fairmount Avenue building in Jersey City

Jersey City firefighters appear to have contained a fire that ripped through a residential building on Fairmount Avenue tonight, NJ Advance Media reporter Sara Jerde said from the scene.

Flames shot through the windows and structure of the building around 10 p.m., but firefighters appear to have gotten the upper hand now that PSE&G has also responded, Jerde said.

EMS and at least five trucks were on the scene.
