Only 17 bears killed Tuesday and it is looking like the hunt will be extended

The possibility of an extended 2017 bear hunt season grew after only 17 bears were killed on Tuesday.

None of the bears had been “tagged,” or documented, prior to the hunt, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The hunt is on pace to fall below the minimum target goal by Saturday evening, when the 12-season season — consisting of six-day hunts in October and December — is scheduled to end.
