A doctor from Wayne was sentenced to 37 months in prison for accepting bribes in exchange for referring patients to Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services for tests, Acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick said Wednesday.
Jorge J. Figueroa, 59, an internal medicine doctor who practiced in West New York, pleaded guilty in federal court in Newark before Judge Stanley R. Chesler in June to accepting checks, cash and other bribe payments totally $200,000 from BLS employees and associates between May 2007 and April 2013. Figueroa then sent the lab more than $1.4 million in business.
