N.J. bear hunters returned to the woods before dawn Monday as protesters prepared to gather in Fredon later this morning.
The second half of the 2017 bear hunt, allowed in eight northern counties, is scheduled to conclude Saturday.
It may be the last in a while if Gov.-elect Phil Murphy carries through on his campaign pledge for a moratorium.
Ray Szpond, a hunter, said he will be in the woods of West Milford on Monday, in search of a bear.
Szpond, president of the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, reiterated his support for the hunt.
