Ordinarily, the loss of one Senate seat wouldn’t be cause for alarm. But when that loss marks a setback for women in New Jersey’s upper house, it’s one more mark against the state when it comes to women’s voices.
The new Legislature to be installed in the Garden State next month includes 36 women – a measly 30 percent of the total. It’s a woeful representation in a state where women make up 51 percent of the population.
