Nanny charged after infant's leg, ankle is broken, prosecutor says

A woman working as a nanny in Bernards Township has been charged after a 9-month-old infant she was caring for suffered a broken right femur, distal fibula and fractured left ankle, Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said Thursday.

Laura M. Gonzalez, 38, of Paterson, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree child abuse, Robertson said.

The prosecutor’s office learned on Nov. 23 that the infant had been treated at Morristown Medical Center. An investigation revealed the infant’s injuries occurred under Gonzalez’s care, according to the prosecutor’s office.
