South Jersey nuclear reactor producing electricity again

LOWER ALLOWAYS CREEK TWP. — A South Jersey nuclear reactor, shut down for a month for refueling and maintenance, is back online, officials said.

The Salem 1 reactor began sending electricity out over the regional power grid at 4:33 p.m. Sunday, according to Joe Delmar, spokesman for the plant’s operator, PSEG Nuclear.

“The dedication and hard work of our employees during the refueling outage will ensure the continued safe operation of Salem Unit 1,” Delmar said. Late Monday morning the plant was at 47 percent power and ascending to full power, he said.
