TRENTON — Lifelong civil rights activist, leader, and Trenton resident Edith Savage-Jennings passed away from health-related issues in her home Sunday, a family friend told NJ Advance Media. She was 93.
Savage-Jennings was a friend and fundraiser for Martin Luther King Jr., helped integrate a school in Mississippi and struck up a friendship with first lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
She’d been invited to the White House by 10 presidents, was an influential member of the NAACP and participated in countless rallies, marches and demonstrations for equal rights throughout her life.
