Homeless man drowns after falling from bridge into Toms River

SOUTH TOMS RIVER — A 51-year-old homeless man drowned after falling into the Toms River on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Edward Kosar was apparently intoxicated when tumbled off a bridge near Mathis Park at 2:48 p.m., the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Investigators pulled Kosar from the water after finding him floating face down, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 4:08 p.m.

Toms River police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, the county prosecutor, the State Police’s marine unit and several fire departments assisted South Toms River police.
