Trenton's only hotel says they'll open soon after numerous violations

TRENTON — The manager of the city’s only hotel said Tuesday they’re making progress in repairs following their second shuttering by state fire code inspectors in four months.

The state Department of Community Affairs’ Division of Fire Safety closed The Lafayette Park Hotel and Suites on the morning of Oct. 6 for several violations, including blocked exits, broken panic hardware on doors, an improperly installed temporary boiler, work being done without permits and a failed alarm system.

“We’re upgrading and we’re going to open with a really strong atmosphere,” manager Mashkoor Ahmad, who works with owner Deepak Viswanath.
