N.J. must lift minimum wage sharply | Feedback

I agree with state Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester, that New Jersey should raise its minimum wage beyond statutory inflation increases, and there are many reasons why.

Nobody should need three jobs to pay the bills. Nobody with a job should have to rely on public assistance for food and utilities.

Our minimum wage should reflect our high cost of living. Income for New Jersey’s working and middle-class people has remained basically stagnant while compensation for the wealthy has steadily increased.

When middle- and working-class people have more income, they usually spend it and stimulate the economy instead of putting …read more
