In Chelsea Bombing Trial, a Lesson on How a Phone Becomes a Trigger

A cellphone found near an exploded bomb in a secluded corner of Seaside Park, N.J., last year had been altered. Two wires, one red, one green, protruded from its black plastic case.

An F.B.I. agent described the wiring on Tuesday at the trial of the man accused of setting the bomb, Ahmad Khan Rahimi, in Federal District Court in Manhattan.
