Bicyclist struck, killed by car in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD – A 61-year-old Lakewood man was killed Monday after he was hit by a car as he attempted to cross Route 70 on his bicycle, police said.

The man, who was not identified by police, crossed the busy highway at an intersection against the red light and rode into the path of a 2014 Kia traveling eastbound on Route 70, Lakewood police Detective Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said.

Route 70 eastbound was shut down for approximately three hours for the investigation, Staffordsmith said.
