Handyman swiped $239K in comic books, fled to Italy, cops say

SPARTA — A handyman stole $239,000 in comic books and comic book artwork from a township home this past summer before fleeing the country to Italy, according to police.

Francesco Bove, 64, of Brooklyn, New York, was hired earlier this year to do clean-up and repair of a home that sustained water damage from a broken pipe, Sparta Police Lt. John Lamon said in a news release.

Bove, however, stole valuable comic books and artwork from the unoccupied residence instead, Lamon said.
