Scores of migrating Monarch butterflies make pit stop in Bayonne (PHOTOS)

Residents on West 38th Street in Bayonne were greeted with an interesting surprise today: hundreds of monarch butterflies fluttering around a cherry tree.

Neighbors gathered around the tree to take photos of the spectacle this morning.

“I was really surprised; when I was there this morning there were hundreds of them I’d say,” said John Kim, owner of the property where his brother Ken has lived since 1986.

It is unclear why the scores of Monarch butterflies were attracted to Kim’s wild cherry tree in his front yard, but it may have been a pit stop, or a “stopover” site along their <a class="colorbox" …read more
