Glimpse of History: A stately home for golf in Somerset County

FAR HILLS — This three-story Georgian colonial was designed in 1919 by John Russell Pope, who also designed the Jefferson Memorial.

Originally owned by stockbroker Thomas Frothingham, the stately brick mansion was later sold to furniture magnate John Sloane.

The Frothingham-Sloane House became home to the United States Golf Association in 1972.
