Joggers take over train path made famous as a dairy run | Editorial

It’s been close to 90 years since you could ride Pennsylvania Railroad’s old Pemberton and Hightstown line, chartered in 1864 to provide dairies and farms access to such locales as Cookstown, Cream Ridge and Imlaystown.

It’s been four decades since the last freight service on the line was discontinued.

Now local bikers, joggers and hikers have the opportunity to bring a rich piece of New Jersey history to life – although they might not realize it – when a recreational trail that follows the rail line winds its way into East Windsor.
