Howell homeless encampment 'in dire straits' as winter nears, leader says

HOWELL – The leader of a homeless encampment housing 13 people on township-owned property is seeking donations to put the residents in temporary shelter for the winter.

Steve Brigham, commonly referred to as “Minister Steve,” said the non-profit foundation overseeing the encampment, Destiny’s Bridge, is short on funds and doesn’t have enough money to heat the tents for the upcoming winter.

“We’re in pretty dire straits,” Brigham said by phone on Sunday. “Our funding is getting low.”
