Man who faked Vietnam War heroics avoids jail

MORRISTOWN — A man who admitted to falsely claiming acts of U.S. military heroism during the Vietnam War and getting gifts has avoided a jail sentence, according to a report in the Daily Record.

Prosecutors reportedly sought a three-year state prison sentence for Robert Guidi, 68.

He pleaded guilty in March to theft by deception and violating the Stolen Valor Act after falsely claiming he was a prisoner of war, Green Beret and Purple Heart recipient, among other misstatements.
