Gas pipeline plan in Meadowlands concerns environmentalists

CARLSTADT — Oklahoma-based gas industry giant, Williams Partners L.P. has applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to expand a pipeline that extends south from Rivervale in Bergen County into the Meadowlands then onto Hudson and Mercer counties.

The $127 million project would increase the amount of natural gas the company could transport to its customers, including those in New Jersey and New York. 

Environmental activists oppose the plan saying it will harm wetlands and that the energy company should be investing in renewable energy sources instead.
