Ewing starting 24/7 fire service, hiring 13 new career firefighters

EWING — The township announced Saturday they are staring a round-the-clock, career fire department that will operate from the Pennington Road Fire Co. building on Pennington Road.

The town was awarded a nearly $1 million federal grant in August and will use the money to offset the hiring of 13 new career firefighters, Mayor Bert Steinmann announced. 

Ewing has already budgeted for seven firefighters, and the grant  -a $971,469 SAFER grant – will provide the other six, Steinmann said. (SAFER is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program to hire or retain firefighters.)
