I read Barbara Essington’s recent letter, “Hate-group tag shows lack of tolerance,” with great dismay. 

I am Catholic, and I reached an age where I had to question certain core principles of my religion. But the basic belief of “love thy neighbor” kept my moral compass strong. And, I believe a large majority of Americans think that way, so we will be fine. But Essington’s letter (which complained about the Southern Poverty Law Center’s “hate” group label on some evangelical Christian groups) shows the dangers that lurk in today’s information age.
