N.J. paid-leave awareness must grow | Editorial

Proponents of expanding New Jersey’s paid family leave law say that too few qualified people know about it.

Such misery loves company, apparently. Even the federal unpaid family leave law is being ignored, misunderstood and/or willfully abused.

Two recent cases demonstrate the lack of knowledge.

According to the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights, a commercial baking company has agreed to pay $60,000 to a woman it fired while she was on maternity leave. The Omni Baking Co., with plants in Bellmawr and Vineland, will also pay a $10,000 penalty to the state.
