Helicopter crash that killed Troy Gentry was 'spur of the moment' ride

MEDFORD — Troy Gentry entered a helicopter at the Flying W Airport hours before he was slated to perform there to reportedly take an “impromptu, spur of the moment” ride. 

Gentry, one half of the country music duo Montgomery Gentry, along with 30-year-old pilot James Evan Robinson, died Friday afternoon after a Schweizer 269 crashed near the airport. According to People magazine, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials said Robinson offered 50-year-old Gentry a casual ride in the two-seater helicopter.
