Fire department's tearful goodbye to their dog Timmy

UNION TWP. – After nine years helping hundreds in Hunterdon County, Timmy, a search-and-rescue dog diagnosed with throat cancer, had to be put down on Sunday.

Timmy, 11, was a founding member of the Pattenburg Volunteer Fire Company’s K9 Unit and served from 2009 until this month. His favorite stuffed animal was Moses the Moose, he loved cheese and his favorite song was “In Case You Didn’t Know,” Fire Chief Dan VanFossen said.

Timmy, a German shepherd, became a celebrity for his work in finding Sulley, a pet tortoise who went wandering away from his enclosure in Hunterdon County. …read more
