5 face charges for showing fake insurance to register vehicles

MOUNT HOLLY — Five people have been indicted for registering uninsured vehicles after showing fraudulent insurance information to the state, authorities said. 

Investigators found that the five people had submitted fraudulent insurance information to the state’s Motor Vehicle Commission in Mount Holly during May and June of this year, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office. They then had their vehicles registered without purchasing legitimate, required insurance. 

The indictment was returned by a grand jury last week. 

Insurance fraud across the state costs families an additional $1,300 in increased premiums, according to the state’s insurance fraud prosecutor’s office.
