ASBURY PARK — Where have all the New Jersey rock festivals gone? 

Asbury Park’s Skate and Surf Festival, a punk destination 15 years ago, ballooned into the A-list-drawing Bamboozle in East Rutherford and then Asbury Park again. Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi and Lil Wayne would all play the weekend-long fest before it morphed back into Skate and Surf in 2013 and again focus on its punk and alt-rock roots. 

But there was none of this in 2016 or ’17, nor was there a worthy followup to the sprawling Rock Carnival that brought Godsmack, Black Label Society and Anthrax to Clark in 2015. …read more
