When Hopewell Township police pulled over Craig Ocleppo for speeding in 2014, the officer noticed his luxury 2003 E 55 AMG Mercedes-Benz reeked of marijuana.

That stop put the Hillsborough resident in a heap of legal trouble, but it paid off handsomely for Mercer County, which used New Jersey’s liberal civil forfeiture laws to confiscate his vehicle, which could be worth more than $20,000.
