Voters won't get to decide whether to eliminate primaries in this city

ELIZABETH — Residents will not vote in November on whether to nix primaries in Elizabeth in favor of non-partisan, municipal elections, despite a petition advocating the change that circulated the city this summer. 

One of the petition’s organizers said although she collected enough signatures to put on the ballot a public question about altering the election format, she felt she lacked enough time to drum up support for the measure and she believed the city would campaign against it.
