This town says it wants just 1 county-wide school district, too

SUSSEX BOROUGH — A proposed county-wide public school district has gained support from a second municipality.

The Sussex Borough Council voted 6-0 to join Newton in calling for a “Consolidated Sussex County School System” to replace the 25 school districts in the county.

Councilwoman Linda Masson said declining student enrollment and rising costs would justify making the big change.

“We have school boards and administrators of schools that are totally removed from what is going on in the real work with taxpayers,” Masson said Thursday, two days after the resolution was approved.
