Jail inmate secretly dismantled window frame in escape attempt: authorities

JERSEY CITY — A 47-year-old New York man has been charged with trying to escape from the Hudson County jail in Kearny by methodically taking a window frame apart over the course of several weeks, officials said.

Bobby L. Delevandel, of Brooklyn, was arrested at the jail on Aug. 30 and made his first court appearance the next day on the charge of attempted escape, according to a criminal complaint.

Delevandel is charged with taking pieces of metal and glass from the window frame for weeks, wrapping them in towels and throwing them in the trash, the complaint says.
