N.J. lifeguard team crowned champs in national competition

Daytona Beach, Fla. — For the second time in four years, lifeguards from Monmouth County earned the top honor at the National Lifeguard Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla.

This was the 29th year the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) held the competition. This year, nearly 1,000 lifeguards from around the country participated in the four-day event.

The Los Angeles County Surf Life Saving Association has dominated the championships, winning first place 28 times out of 29 years. Monmouth County is the only other team to win first place, with its first championship victory coming in 2014.
