Authorities won't ID man who drowned fleeing police

WOODBURY — Authorities say they won’t release the name of a man who drowned after trying to escape from police by jumping into a lake.

A spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said Sunday that since the 20-year-old had not been charged, he won’t be ID’d.

Woodbury police had wanted to talk to the man after being called to investigate the report of a shoplifting at the Wawa on North Evergreen Avenue around 3:50 a.m. Saturday.
