Cop spent stolen union funds on timeshares, home improvements, AG says

TRENTON — A retired Cape May police officer who used a union bank account to buy timeshares in Mexico and the Caribbean pleaded guilty to theft charges on Thursday, authorities said. 

The former union president, John Campbell, admitted to stealing $105,000 from his members in what the state’s attorney general called “a crass betrayal by a man who took an oath to uphold the law.”

John Campbell, 48, of Cape May. 

Campbell, 48, faces almost a year in jail as part of plea deal with prosecutors, according to Attorney General Christopher Porrino’s office.
