5 teens robbed taxi driver at gunpoint, police say

PERTH AMBOY — Five Carteret teenagers were arrested last week on charges they robbed a taxicab driver at gunpoint on Friday, authorities said.

One of the suspects took $80 from the taxi driver before fleeing the area in a vehicle, police said. The driver was able to see parts of the getaway car’s license plate, police said.

After an investigation, the vehicle and the weapon, a black 9mm Taurus semi-automatic handgun with full metal jacket ammunition, were recovered, police said.

The suspects, one of whom is 17-year-old from Carteret, were arrested a short time later, police said.
