Water-quality advisories issued at 3 beaches

Three beaches in Monmouth and Ocean counties were issued water-quality advisories after testing revealed samples exceeded acceptable levels of Enterococci bacteria, the state Department of Environmental Protection said Tuesday.

Beaches are closed when samples are above acceptable levels for two consecutive days. An advisory is issued the day a sample comes back higher than the acceptable level.

In Monmouth County, the ocean beach at New York Boulevard in Sea Girt was placed under an advisory. In Ocean County, advisories were issued at two bay beaches: at 25th St. in Barnegat Light and at the bay beach in Long Beach Township.
