Rear-end crash shuts down Delaware Memorial Bridge

PENNSVILLE TWP. — A rear-end collision caused a fire which destroyed a van and briefly shutdown one span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge Tuesday morning causing a major traffic snarl, officials said.

A Ford Transit Van carrying medical supplies struck another vehicle near mid-span of the bridge around 7:35 a.m., according to Jim Salmon, spokesman for the Delaware River and Bay Authority which operates the bridge.
