Authorities rescue 5 from capsized boat in Point Pleasant

POINT PLEASANT — Five people were rescued Sunday night after a boat capsized in Point Pleasant Canal, State Police said.

State Police’s Marine Services made the rescue shortly after 7 p.m. at the canal that connects the Manasquan River to northern Barnegat Bay, State Police spokesman Trooper Lawrence Peele said.

No one was injured when the boat capsized, Peele said.

An official with the U.S. Coast Guard told the Asbury Park Press seven people were saved in the rescue. Authorities with the service could not be reached Sunday night.
