Why the SWAT team swarmed downtown Rahway on Friday

RAHWAY — The swarm of police and SWAT team members in downtown Rahway on Friday was sparked by a report of an armed robbery, police said Saturday.

A woman reported that four men had robbed her at gunpoint around 3:40 p.m. on the 100 block of West Main Street, and then ran into a residential building, Rahway police said.

Officers checked the building but did not find the men, the authorities said.

Several police cars and Union County emergency vehicles blocked off the surrounding area Friday afternoon, and county SWAT team members were on the scene, according to Facebook videos.
