Longtime N.J. senator recovering from cancer surgery | The Auditor

Jim Whelan, a former Atlantic City mayor and veteran member of the state Senate, underwent surgery this week to remove a cancerous growth from his kidney, his office said. 

The operation was successful, and doctors expect the 68-year-old Whelan (D-Atlantic) to make a fully recovery within weeks, his office added. 

“They caught it in time,” Kathleen Doles, Whelan’s chief of staff, told The Auditor. “He thanks everyone. By every indication, he’s done fabulous with the surgery. The doctors are very positive.”
