West New York condo owners awarded $9M in suit against Hovnanian

WEST NEW YORK — A group of West New York condominium owners was awarded $9 million in a suit charging that developer Hovnanian ignored its own architects’ warnings about construction problems and and sold units in a six-story building on the Hudson River waterfront, the group’s lawyers announced.

Lawyers who announced the award by a Hudson County jury said it was particularly gratifying that Red Bank-based Hovnanian Enterprises, one of the nation’s largest home builders, was unable to hide behind the complex ownership structure erected for its Grandview I building. The condo is  within the sprawling Port Imperial waterfront development complex.
