Craters dot Washington Street as renaissance begins

HOBOKEN — As Hoboken moves to a Smart City redesign on its main drag, the non-tech pothole is stubbornly hogging the center stage.

Residents and commuters are continuously reporting car-damaging and foot-twisting craters that make maneuvering in the Mile Square City hazardous.

“Washington Street is a disaster. I drive into Hoboken on Fridays and I avoid Washington at all costs,” said Commuter Christina Tullo, 36, of Belleville. She takes the train in from Lyndhurst on most days.

Even walking is hazardous, she added. “It’s ridiculous. You can seriously hurt yourself if you’re not careful,” she said.
