Ex-Rutgers star, NFL tight end and wife open paint, drink studio

SOUTH PLAINFIELD — Former Rutgers and Philadelphia Eagles tight end L.J. Smith and his wife, Jessica, are set to open a studio in the city where people can eat, drink and learn to paint. 

City officials, business leaders and friends of the Smiths gathered Thursday evening at the studio, Pinot’s Palette, to celebrate its scheduled June 23 opening. L.J. Smith, who spent seven seasons in the NFL, called Jessica the “mastermind” behind opening their own store from the American franchise. 

“It’s a good and fun thing to do on a date night,” L.J. Smith said.
